How to Wax Your Base Like a Pro (Using Board Budder)

Waxing isn’t just maintenance—it’s a ritual. A moment of zen before you drop in. Whether you’re charging storm days, hitting spring slush laps, or just trying to beat your friends to the lift line, a good wax job makes all the difference. Here’s how to dial it in with Board Budder.

Base Prep: Start Fresh

Before you lay down a new coat of Budder, you’ve got to prep the canvas.

1. Scrape Off Old Wax
Get rid of leftover wax from your last session. Grab a scraper and smooth out your base until it's clean and consistent. This gives the new wax a clean slate to grip onto.

2. Clean the Base
Use Board Budder Base Cleaner or rubbing alcohol to wipe away dirt, grime, and whatever else you picked up last time you rode. A clean base = better wax adhesion = better performance.

Dripping Wax: The Foundation

This is where the magic starts.

3. Set the Iron Temperature
Dial in your waxing iron to 120–130°C. Lower than that? You’re basically trying to spread frozen butter on cold toast. That temp sweet spot melts Board Budder just right—smooth, even, and effective.

4. Drip the Wax
Start at the nose of your skis or board. Hold the iron 6–12 inches above the base and press the wax to the iron. Let it drip in a controlled pattern across the entire base.

5. Even It Out
Now sweep. Glide your iron from edge to edge, nose to tail. Let the heat melt and spread the wax evenly across the surface. The goal is full coverage—not puddles.

Ironing Wax: Smooth & Steady

6. Iron the Wax
Touch the iron to the base and move slowly, letting the wax flow into every pore of your base. You’re aiming for a thin, even layer—not a swamp.

7. Cool Down
Give it 15–20 minutes to chill at room temp. Don’t rush this. Warm wax is soft, sticky, and way harder to scrape. Let it set.

Scraping: Fine-Tuning

8. Scrape the Wax
Start from the nose and work toward the tail with your scraper at a 45º angle. Strip off the excess—what’s left behind is the good stuff absorbed into your base.

9. Keep Scraping
If you’re still getting wax shavings, keep going. When the scraper runs clean, you’re done. What’s left in the base is what does the real work.

10. Polish It Off
Use a Board Budder cork bar to polish the surface, nose to tail. This gives your base a slick, smooth finish—and looks damn good too.

11. Brush It Out
Hit it with the Board Budder Nylon Brush, brushing nose to tail. This creates micro-channels in the wax that help shed water and boost glide.

Final Steps: Ready to Shred

12. Hit the Slopes
You’re waxed, tuned, and ready to fly. Whether it’s groomers, powder, or park laps—Board Budder’s got your base dialed.

13. Shred Responsibly
Ride hard, but leave no toxins behind. With great wax comes great responsibility. Respect the mountain. Love the snow. And always Shred Responsibly.
