Chemical Standards

SHRED RESPONSIBLY STARTS WITH WHAT WE DON'T USE.

Most wax is built on cheap petroleum and mystery ingredients nobody wants to explain. That's not our lane.

Board Budder runs on a simple rule: If it doesn't belong on your board, in your lungs, or in the mountains it doesn't go in our wax.

These standards apply across our wax, packaging, and production inputs. They guide ingredient decisions before anything ever gets melted, blended, or shipped.

What this is

This page is the public version of our Restricted Substances List (RSL): the internal standard that screens materials before they ever touch a formula.

It covers:

  • Raw materials and ingredients
  • Additives and processing aids
  • Manufacturing inputs
  • Packaging materials and inks

Our baseline commitments

Board Budder products are built to meet these non-negotiables:

  • No intentionally added PFAS or other fluorinated compounds
  • No petroleum-derived paraffin wax
  • Preference for natural-based, renewable inputs
  • Screening for biodegradability where applicable
  • Avoidance of substances known to be persistent, bioaccumulative, or toxic

What we prohibit

These substances are intentionally excluded from Board Budder products and processes.

PFAS and fluorinated compounds

  • Any intentionally added PFAS
  • Fluorinated waxes and fluoropolymers
  • PTFE (Teflon)
  • PFOA, PFOS, GenX, and related compounds

Threshold: 0 ppm intentionally added

Petroleum-based waxes

  • Paraffin wax
  • Microcrystalline petroleum waxes
  • Petroleum-derived hydrocarbon waxes

Persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic substances

We avoid substances identified as persistent and bioaccumulative under major regulatory frameworks (U.S. EPA, EU REACH, or equivalent), and we screen for SVHCs (Substances of Very High Concern).
